Pharmaceutical form:
Suspension for injection (Susp.i.)
Composition: per ml:
Dexamethasone (isonicotinate) 1 mg.
Pharmacological properties:
longosona is a synthetic glucocorticoid derived from cortisol with an anti-
inflammatory activity 25 times greater than this, and with hardly any mineralocorticoid activity. It has many
effects on the body, which can be summarized as: gluconeogenic action, decrease in the degree
of local inflammation, antiallergic effect, immunosuppressive effect and inhibition of
ACTH secretion .
Interactions and incompatibilities:
Do not administer together with antidiabetics, barbiturates, diuretics potassium depletors,
indomethacin, salicylates and antihistamines.
Indications and target species:
Bovidae (Calves) and Equidae: Inflammations caused by infections, allergies, trauma or
other etiologies, shock and circulatory collapse.
Bovids: Ketosis.
Contraindications:
• Do not administer to animals with: bacterial diseases without concomitant antibiotic therapy,
fungal or viral infections, renal and / or liver failure, congestive heart failure,
osteoporosis and bone fractures, diabetes mellitus, degenerative eye diseases or ulcer
corneal, hyperadrenocorticalism (Cushing’s syndrome).
• Animals undergoing immunological treatment.
• Pregnant females during the last third of pregnancy.
Side effects:
• Dairy production of lactating animals may temporarily decrease with the
administration of dexamethasone.
• In cases of infections, its symptoms can be masked, such as
pyrexia, laxity and lack of appetite.
• Reduces organic defenses by predisposing the animal more easily to
microbial infections .
• Causes delayed wound healing.
• May cause weakness of striated musculature.
• In equidae, a dose higher than 5 mg / animal can cause lethargy, which usually remits within 24
hours. In some cases it can cause laminitis.
Route of administration:
Intramuscular.
Shake it before using.
Dosage:
Bovids (Calves) and Equids: 0.20 to 0.80 ml / 10 kg pv in a single dose.
• Repeat, if necessary, 10 14 days after the first administration.
• Do not apply concomitant therapy with other corticosteroids.
• If there are infectious or parasitic diseases, apply together with
specific antibiotics or antiparasitic.
Waiting time:
Meat: 60 days.
Milk: Do not use.
• Do not administer to equidae whose meat is destined for human consumption.
Conservation mode:
Keep in a cool, dry place and protected from light.
Observations:
Dispensing with veterinary prescription.
Presentation:
50 ml containers.
